Two Months before Eastound
They systematically destroyed what farmland they could reach. Together they were truly formidable. Tenebrous’ plans rarely failed, and Blood-ica’s army of undead was unstoppable … until he appeared.
They called him ‘The Hero of Hammersey’: a man whose family had been killed in one of the first farming towns they’d destroyed. Somehow, he’d got his hands on a magic sword, capable of killing undead, and he’d worked with the queen’s army to push back the carnage.
Tenebrous had sent Maria von Kraine to spy on him, but her news was inconsistent, and she had a new habit of disappearing for months without a word. Most times, he was too focused on Blood-ica to care. To him this was just a little bump in the road, a logical hiccup that would soon be smoothed out, but to Blood-ica it was an insult.
Without warning, she banned him from their council room. Her pride was tarnished. The lich was determined to take down the Hero of Hammersey without his help.
Tenebrous stood on the balcony of their castle and watched the barren world sprawl before him. In one had was a letter and in the other was the pocketknife he’d been given all those years ago. The letter was from Maria von Kraine and it disclosed the location of the Hero in great detail.
He’d never killed someone with his own hands before, but to restore Blood-ica’s pride and to return things to normal, he was willing to start. The journey into the capital was quick via horseback, and he wore a dark cloak that hid his face. He found the location detailed in Maria’s letter with ease: a simple training ground.
As he approached, he listened for commotion, but was pleased to hear nothing more than one person training. The Hero of Hammersey was all alone with his back towards him.
Tenebrous peered into the training ground from around a corner and took in the sight of the hero, but was surprised to find he didn’t fit Maria’s descriptions at all.
He did wear the famous cloak: blue with just enough stitches and patches to hold it together after countless battles. He even had the famed sword Soul Imbiber in his hands. The sun reflected off its golden sheen. However, he had silver hair tied in a long ponytail, and he didn’t look as strong as she’d described.
She’d lied to him. But why?
He stepped out of the shadows, planning to sneak up and stab his enemy, but then the Hero of Hammersey decided to turn around.
Silver hair, silver eyes, and a small tattoo along his bottom lip.
Tenebrous had finally come face to face with the Hero of Hammersey: Ethan March, the twin brother he hadn’t seen in fourteen years.
